TLC for Kids

The Drain Man is a proud supporter of TLC For Kids. This great organisation provides critical care to kids in hospitals across the country.

They provide emergency distractions to nurture the emotional wellbeing of kids undergoing medical treatment, within 48 hours of the request being made. Sometimes this is a surprise gift, a visit from a special celebrity they admire, or a day trip out from hospital. Other times, it might be something as simple as covering the cost of getting the child’s parents to the hospital to be by their side.

Please visit the website if you would like to learn more about TLC for Kids and the great initiatives they provide to help kids through their time in the hospital.

Stage 2 Water Restrictions remain in place until 31st of March 2011

Stage 2 water restrictions are now in place across metropolitan Melbourne and will remain, at least, until 31 March 2011.

The continuation of Stage 2 restrictions will provide Melburnians with greater certainty over the next nine months while maintaining the existing savings by households, industry and the wider community.

Melbourne will remain on Stage 2 water restrictions and Target 155 until at least the end of March 2011, despite recent rainfall pushing Melbourne’s storages close to 50%.

Although there have been a few good months of solid rain which have helped boost storages, Melbourne is now entering summer, and over the next 5 months storages traditionally decrease by around 125 billion litres.

Staying on Stage 2 water restrictions provides households with certainty heading into the warmer months and will ensure we keep using water efficiently.

The water saving efforts of Melbourne households in the past year have been fantastic with daily water use dropping to 143 litres per person per day in 2010. It is because of this water saving, plus rainfall and water projects coming online, that storages are now so high.

While Stage 2 water restrictions are providing more flexibility for Melbournians, we want people to continue to use water wisely, so we are encouraging everyone to still keep to Target 155.

Storages have staged an impressive short-term recovery and are about 220 billion litres higher than at the same time last year. This provides Melbourne with a comfortable level of water security, though we can’t afford to be relaxed or to have a short memory.

Storage levels have eroded quickly in the past, and while there will always be wet years there’s been no change to the fundamental outlook that Melbourne faces a future with more people and less rain. Melbourne will remain vulnerable to drought until levels in the city’s biggest reservoir, the Thomson, recover more lost ground. It is currently at 32%.

Melbourne’s overall storages are currently at 49.3% (as at 22/10/2010). Though inflows are slowing as rain eases, the 50% mark could be reached within 2-3 weeks if current trends continue. Storages tend to peak around November or December and then gradually fall right through until the following winter, so it’s possible that we’ll drop back under 50% before the end of the year.

Pipe Relining for Blocked Drains Melbourne

How The Drain Man relining system works:

Before any relining takes place, the drains must first be inspected and surveyed. We use a “Color CCTV pipe camera” to identify and locate the cause of the problem. The drain is then cleared using a high pressure water jet; once the blockage is cleared the pipe is then ready for the Liner installation.

The Flex liner is custom made from fabric that is impregnated with a specially formulated two part epoxy resin that sets hard in a matter of hours allowing minimal disruption and inconvenience.

Once the liner is tailor made and prepared, it is inserted in to your drain via  any opening in the drain. It is positioned in place with a CCTV camera and inflated, forcing the liner to take the shape of the pipe filling and voids, cracks or lining over any damaged section. After a 2-4 hour (subject to weather and conditions) curing period, the internal bladder of the liner will be retrieved, completing the process and making the drain ready for use immediately.

On completion of all works carried out, you will receive a “before and after DVD video survey” of your drain, 6 year work guarantee and a 40 year product guarantee.

This is an ultimate breakthrough in technology for blocked drains Melbourne. Contact The Drain Man to talk about this new method of clearing your blocked drain or considering a drain checkup to prevent a blocked drain in Melbourne.

Blocked drains – Do you expect your drains to be cleared by a Licensed or Registered Plumber?

We are in the process of investigating whether the Plumbing Industry Commission will define drain cleaning to be works that are required to be carried out by licensed or registered plumbers.

Blocked drains are part of your sewer system. The Drain Man asks: Would you want an unskilled person cleaning your blocked drain?
