Do I really need to get my badly blocked drain dug up?
The short answer is No!
While many plumbers will tell you that the only way to fix your badly blocked drain is to dig it up and replace it with a new drain, that’s no longer true.
New techniques and technology in drains means that you can get your drain relined – WITHOUT DIGGING.
Relining a drain is simple. (To see how it works, watch this video )
So when someone tells you that your drain is badly blocked with tree roots, or that the drain has collapsed or it is cracked or broken or full of soil or concrete, etc and that there is no alternative to digging up the drain and replacing it, know that this is NOT TRUE.
You do have an alternative.
Drain relining means NO DIGGING, NO DAMAGE, NO DRAMAS.
So you don’t have to dig up your precious garden, cut through your driveway or paths, dig under your deck or destroy your garage to get your drain problems fixed for life!
The first step of drain relining is to put a camera down the drain to see what is causing the blockage, where it’s located, how severe the problem is.
Then it’s time to clear the blockage using high-power water-jetting equipment or other methods.
Once the blockage is cleared, the camera goes down the drain again. This time to work out exactly where the drain damage is, how extensive or severe it is.
Then the relining process starts with pulling the new drain lining into place. The internal bladder is inflated to expand the new drain lining so it presses up against the inside of the existing drain. This ensures that the new lining covers over all cracks and holes in the drain and that it takes the full shape of the existing drain.
Also if the drain is partially collapsed, this process pushes the original outside of the drain pipe back into its proper place, making the drain as large as it was originally.
The new drain lining is allowed to harden and the internal bladder is deflated and removed.
The result is even better than a new drain, because the lining inside the drain, makes the drain stronger than it originally was. If it’s a PVC drain, the drain walls are now effectively twice as thick. If it’s an old terracotta drain, that has junctions and joints that were falling apart these are now completely sealed.
Whatever type of drain it is, the relined drain is now impervious to tree roots getting into the relined section of the drain. All cracks and holes are sealed.
And the drain lining is guaranteed for life! So not only is drain relining cheaper, faster and less destructive than digging up your drain and replacing it with a new one, you actually also end up with a stronger drain!
